Design and Specification
The Sony Xperia M is the entry-level younger sibling of the Xperia Z.
Available in both both single and dual-SIM options, The phone is based on the trademark Xperia design and scores high on looks and build quality.
Measuring at 124 x 62 x 9.3 mm and weighing 115g, it has more compact design than most Android phones.
The back of the phone has a matte plastic with a soft touch finish that’s pleasant to touch and the sides of the phone are wrapped in plastic, giving it a nice unibody impression.
Closely following the design guidelines of the Xperia family, does give the phone a great in-hand feel.
The Xperia M comes with a 4 inch display of 480 x 854, bringing the pixel density to 245ppi and is protected by scratch resistant class.
Unlike most entry ranged Android phones, the phone is powered by a Dual-core 1 GHz Krait running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8227 chipset with a Adreno 305 GPU and 1 GB of RAM.
The phone runs Android OS, v4.1 and is upgradable to v4.2 Jelly Bean.
Camera and Multimedia
The Sony Xperia M is equipped with a 5 MP camera that is capable of taking still shots with a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels and is capable of capturing 720p video footage at 30fps.
As with the Xperia series, the Sony Xperia M camera offers all kinds of features, including HDR mode, Sweep panorama face detection, geo-tagging and touch capture.
Not to forget the Scenes and picture effects.
The camera also comes with an auto upload option, but that only works with Sony's own PlayMemories Online service.
You can set it to upload only over Wi-Fi and only while charging.
The Sony Xperia M has quad-band 2G and up to quad-band 3G connectivity across all regional models.
Mobile data speeds top 21 downlink and 5.76Mbps uplink.
Local connectivity is covered by dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct, for easy content sharing from your phone with a DLNA TV or music player.
You can use the Smart Connect app for DLNA functions like sharing screen, etc.
There's also Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and ANT+.
MicroUSB handles the charging and PC connectivity, and it also supports USB on-the-go.
Last but not least is Xperia Link, which lets you use the phone's Internet connection over Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi.
Battery and Storage
The Sony Xperia M comes with a standard 1750 mAH Li-Ion battery with an endurance rating of 54 hours and also offers talk time of 10 hours and standby time of 454 hours on 3G.
Storage is limited to 4GB of internal memory and can be further expanded to 32GB using a micro-SD card
