Design and Specification

The Lumia 520 sits on the lower end of Nokia's second generation of Microsoft-powered smartphones.
In terms of budget, The 520 is clearly the most affordable WP8-powered smartphone.
Technically, it's a trimmed down version of the Lumia 720.
It's a reasonably compact device by modern standards and one that's easy to hold and operate with one hand.
Powered by a 1 GHz dual-core Krait CPU, Adreno 305 GPU, Qualcomm MSM8227 chipset with 512MB of RAM, The Lumia 520 runs on Windows Phone 8 OS.
This entry range phone has a unibody design, reinforced by the seriously sturdy feel of the phone and comes with a 4 inch screen of resolution 480 x 800 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 233 ppi.
At 119.9 x 64 x 9.9 mm, the Lumia 520 weighs the perfectly acceptable 124g.
A simple and sensible design that works well, the curved shape and soft rubbery finish around back make for a handset that's got plenty of grip and style.

Camera and Multimedia

The Lumia 520 boasts a 5 MP camera with auto focus which is capable of taking pictures of up to 2592x1936 pixel resolution and 720p video recording at 30fps.
The camera app on Windows Phone comes preloaded with extensive settings, ranging from scenes and effects to white balance, contrast, saturation, sharpness and ISO among others.
You have a dedicated Macro focus mode, Panorama and Cinemagraph.
The camera also comes with Smart Shoot.
Smart shoot uses Nokias very own Scalado technology.
Technically, you’re shooting multiple photos and you pick which one to save .
You can also pick the best face and cycle through each facial expression a person made while the camera was snapping photos.

Connectivity

The Nokia Lumia 520 has quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, quad-band 3G with HSPA but no LTE connectivity due to it being an entry level phone.
HSDPA still offers high speeds at 21Mbps downlink and 5.76Mbps uplink.
The local connectivity is covered by single-band Wi-Fi b/g/n with DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot, and stereo Bluetooth 3.0 and Data sense.
There is Mass Storage mode and you can upload files without needing to install any software.
You also get free  lifetime voice-guided navigation, Xbox Live integration and Xbox management.

Battery and Storage

The Lumia 520 comes with a standard 1430 mAH Li-Ion battery with an endurance rating of 49 hours and also offers talk time of 9 hours and 40 minutes and standby time of 360 hours on 3G.
Storage is limited to 8GB of internal memory which can be further expanded to 64GB using a micro-SD card.
In addition to your phone storage, you also get at least 7GB of SkyDrive cloud space.
